Week 36 of being pregnant… a.k.a the first week that I am so totally and completely done with being pregnant. For real. All of you who are mamas already know exactly what I am talking about here. You are so exhausted and spent from waddling around all day and carrying all the extra weight, yet at the same time, sleep is now the very bane of your existence! Seriously, all I want to do is sleep for about 17 hours straight.
This little one seems to have a different plan for me. Between constant karate chops to the belly, needing to pee every hour and dealing with a nagging sciatic nerve, low back and hip pain, I am lucky to get your “required” total of 6-8 hours! And do you know what is really annoying? EVERY book, article, and website I read about being pregnant says “…sleep now because when the baby comes, you will be wishing you were more rested and that you had taken advantage of the time you had to sleep, blah blah blah…” Ummmm, obviously whoever writes these articles are either women who have never been pregnant or they are MEN!! If I could sleep, I would, thank you very much!! Ugh.
Needless to say the clock on my computer now says 3:21 am. Oh, and did I mention that I have been awake since 1:26 am? No word of a lie. Can we add to the mix that I have a 2 1/2 year old boy who is rambunctious and constantly on the go 24/7? And even though he tends to sleep through the nights, he is recovering from Croup and dealing with a newfound diagnosis of Asthma. Needless to say, my hubby and I have had many sleepless nights of making sure his breathing is okay or being with him at the hospital. Let’s save that story for later though.
Oh Sleep…I look forward to the day that we can meet again in our peaceful, solitary way and that we can reclaim what we once had. Sigh. Until then my sweet friend, I bid you farewell. Actually, I think I bid you farewell about two and a half years ago…but again, let’s not go there.
